Laparoscopy is a procedure based on the principle of imaging the intra-abdominal organs with the help of a thin camera from the navel under general anaesthesia. It is also possible to treat with assistive instruments inserted through millimetre holes drilled in the abdomen during imaging. Stomach, gallbladder, liver, spleen, pancreas, small and large intestine surgeries, inguinal hernia and hernia in the anterior abdominal wall can be performed laparoscopically. Laparoscopy, also known as closed, bloodless and bladeless surgery among people, has been used for therapeutic purposes in medicine since the 1980s.
