Inguinal Hernia
Asymptomatic hernias can be followed for a while, but enlarged hernias that cause painful symptoms should be operated on.
The surgery is done in 2 ways.
Open Hernia Surgery
Over time, surgical methods have changed. Since the recurrence rates and postoperative pain complaints were quite high in previous surgeries, mesh surgeries are performed today. (tension-free surgeries)
Laparoscopic hernia surgery
It is the repair of the hernia behind the abdominal wall with long thin instruments by making small incisions ranging from 0.5 cm to 1 cm in length. It is performed under general anaesthesia. Laparoscopic hernia repair is done with a patch (mesh). This patch is placed on the upper part of the abdominal membrane, which is the innermost layer of the abdominal wall. Laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery can be performed with 2 methods. TEP (Total Extraperitoneal) or TAPP (TransabdominalPreperitoneal). In the first of these methods, a patch is placed by entering the abdomen without entering the abdomen in the second.
The patches have changed over time. Developed with 3D patches, these patches do not need to be fixed to the bone, as they fit perfectly into the area. Thus, postoperative pain is considerably reduced.
